Military spouses are being celebrated this May as part of Military Appreciation Month. May 6 marks Military Spouse Appreciation Day, which recognizes the contributions of those who serve alongside their uniformed partners. Military spouses come from all walks of life, with varying backgrounds and skill sets. They face unique challenges, including homesickness, moving, and making new connections. However, being a military spouse can also be rewarding, with opportunities for personal growth and the chance to help others. Military spouses are advised to reach out to incoming families to show them the way, help locate resources, and assist in navigating the base. They are also encouraged to practice self-care and keep open lines of communication with their partners. Sharene Brown, spouse of Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. CQ Brown, Jr., recently announced a Five & Thrive initiative to increase focus on quality of life challenges faced by military families. The Thrive Guide was created “by spouses, for spouses” to help navigate the military spouse journey.
