The European Space Agency (ESA) has announced the final two crew members of Commercial Crew-7, which will be piloted by ESA astronaut Andreas Mogensen. The crew will fly to the International Space Station (ISS) later this summer. Japanese astronaut Satoshi Furukawa and Roscosmos astronaut Konstantin Borisov will join Mogensen and NASA astronaut Jasmin Moghbeli on SpaceX’s Crew Dragon. Furukawa and Borisov will both be mission specialists on Crew-7, which will be led by Moghbeli as commander. Mogensen will be the first European pilot on SpaceX’s Crew Dragon and will be responsible for the spacecraft’s systems and performance. The crew will launch from Cape Canaveral in Florida and stay on the ISS for around six months as part of Expedition 69 and 70. Furukawa has a doctorate in medicine and specialises in gastrointestinal surgery. He flew in a Soyuz spacecraft to the ISS in 2011 as part of Expedition 28 and 29 and has since been head of JAXA’s Space Biomedical Research Group. Borisov was selected for astronaut training in 2018 and has two Masters degrees. Moghbeli is a test pilot in the US Marine Corps and has flown over 2000 hours in more than 25 aircraft. She started her astronaut training in 2017 and has worked on developing the Human Landing System for the Artemis programme.
