BAE Systems’ FAST Labs has been awarded a $7m contract by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for the Oversight autonomous space-based target custody program. The program will create an autonomous system that maintains constant “custody” of a large number of assets across new, diversified constellations. The technology will be deployed to both tactical-edge satellites and ground stations. The program is part of BAE Systems’ autonomous technologies portfolio and includes collaboration with subcontractors OmniTeq and AIMdyn, Inc. The DARPA Oversight program is being developed to improve the tactical relevance of US space systems.
