LM from Blue Origin's National Team Chosen to Develop Human Spaceflight

Lockheed Martin Joins Blue Origin’s National Team to Develop Human Lunar Lander for NASA’s Artemis Program

Lockheed Martin, a renowned aerospace and defense company, has been selected to join Blue Origin’s National Team to develop and demonstrate a human landing system for NASA’s Artemis program. The program aims to establish a sustainable human lunar lander and perform a crewed demonstration flight to the lunar surface for Artemis V.

The National Team, led by Blue Origin, also includes Draper, Boeing, Astrobotic, and Honeybee Robotics. This diverse team combines innovation, deep experience, and a strong industrial base to develop humanity’s first Cislunar Transporter.

Kirk Shireman, Vice President of Lunar Exploration Campaigns at Lockheed Martin Space, expressed his excitement about the partnership. “We value Blue Origin’s thoughtful approach to developing human-rated flight systems and are thrilled to be part of a diverse team,” he said.

Lockheed Martin brings over 50 years of experience in space exploration to the lunar lander effort. The company has developed the Orion spacecraft, supported numerous planetary robotic missions, and developed the space shuttle’s external fuel tank. Additionally, Lockheed Martin and National Team partners are engaging small and mid-sized businesses across the country in the development of the landing system.

NASA’s Artemis program is redefining deep space exploration and a sustainable human landing system program is key to extending our human presence away from Earth in a long-term way. This will greatly add to our scientific knowledge of the solar system. With the expertise of Lockheed Martin and the National Team, the future of space exploration looks brighter than ever before.
