Thales Alenia Space Launches Space Business Catalyst, a Groundbreaking Initiative

Introducing the Space Business Catalyst: Thales Alenia Space’s Innovative Accelerator for the Space Sector

Thales Alenia Space, the joint venture between Thales and Leonardo, is proud to announce the launch of the Space Business Catalyst, an industry accelerator dedicated to the space sector. This groundbreaking initiative is set to coincide with the Assises du New Space forum in Paris on July 5.

The Space Business Catalyst is the first of its kind and aims to foster the emergence of new players in the space industry by supporting the development of disruptive projects. As an industry accelerator, it provides crucial support to intrapreneurs and startups during their early growth phase, helping them define and implement their industrial scale-up strategies. This agile structure is designed to facilitate the creation of innovative solutions that can generate a genuine market dynamic, drive technological breakthroughs, and open up new avenues of development for existing solutions.

Thales Alenia Space has been at the forefront of New Space since 2014, with a dedicated Innovation Cluster focused on pioneering strategies. This approach has already led to the successful launch of disruptive intrapreneurship projects, such as Space Edge Computing in collaboration with Microsoft, as well as collaborations with over 700 startups. The Space Business Catalyst, launched in 2023, further strengthens and develops Thales Alenia Space’s commitment to providing selective and qualitative support for innovative projects that will shape future markets.

Located in Toulouse and Turin, the Space Business Catalyst boasts impressive facilities spanning 400 square meters (4,300 sq.ft) and is already home to around 10 startups and intrapreneurs from around the world. Working closely with entrepreneurship experts, Thales Alenia Space has developed a comprehensive support program that offers technical, commercial, relational, and financial assistance to project leaders. This unique opportunity allows them to forge strategic collaborations with a major player in the space industry. The Space Business Catalyst aligns perfectly with Thales Alenia Space’s Space For Life vision, which aims to integrate projects that contribute to responsible space development, such as modular space infrastructure and space’s role in sustainable finance.

Vincent Clot, Business and Open Innovation Director at Thales Alenia Space, expressed his excitement about the Space Business Catalyst, stating, “It promises much more than a traditional accelerator. Through strategic partnerships with Axiom, BlackSky, Space Cargo, Omnispace, Kinéis, Anywaves, Geoflex, and SpaceLocker, Thales Alenia Space has positioned itself as the go-to partner for long-term alliances and shaping the future of space. We are committed to attracting top talent by offering opportunities to innovate within an ecosystem that is at the forefront of the sector.”

The launch of the Space Business Catalyst perfectly aligns with the ethos of the Assises du New Space forum in Paris, which will take place on July 5 and 6. This event provides a platform for French space organizations to come together and discuss the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead in the space industry. With the sector becoming more accessible than ever before, it presents a wealth of technological and business opportunities for all stakeholders.
