SES Space & Defense Secures $134M X-Band Blanket Purchase Agreement with US DoD - Via Satellite

SES Space & Defense has been awarded a five-year X-Band Blanket Purchase Agreement (BPA) by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) with an estimated value of $134 million. The contract, announced on Wednesday, is for global X-Band satellite capacity, teleport, and network services over a secure global terrestrial network. SES Space & Defense will utilize the GovSat-1 satellite and collaborate with other integrators and satcom and teleport operators.

This BPA is a single award through the Defense Information Systems Agency’s (DISA) Defense Information Technology Contracting Organization (DITCO) by the U.S. Space Force. It marks the first integration services agreement awarded to SES Space & Defense since its acquisition of DRS GES by SES in August 2022.

David Fields, President and CEO of SES Space & Defense, described the BPA as a “foundation block” in accelerating the integration of milsatcom and commercial satcom. He emphasized the importance of partnering with industry-leading X-Band owners and operators to meet the demand for secure, non-preemptible mission-assured capacity for critical operations. Fields highlighted that by combining satellite capacity, satcom services can achieve the highest availability with redundant X-Band coverage and diverse gateway connectivity within sovereign space.
