NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California has teamed up with the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) to create software that uses 3D visualisations to examine relationships between points of data. The software, which is compatible with several popular headsets, can visualise anything from a spreadsheet to a large “data lake” without having to move the data from where it resides. The platform is currently most often used in banking, retail and medical research. The three organisations obtained an exclusive license from Caltech, which manages JPL, to found Virtualitics in 2016. Many of its 60 employees come from the centre or Caltech.
