Nine new space satellite data suppliers have joined the Copernicus programme as ‘Contributing Missions’. The European Space Agency (ESA) and the European Commission welcomed the companies at the Le Bourget Paris Air Show, celebrating their contribution to monitoring climate change and other environmental issues. Copernicus is the world’s largest environmental programme, providing terabytes of free and open satellite data and information services to hundreds of thousands of users every day. The programme is important for evidence-based decision-making to address climate change and optimise business practices to be more sustainable. The new companies will complement the Sentinel missions by providing information about changing land, oceans and atmosphere.
