EU Selects 9 Startups to Contribute Data to Copernicus Mission - Via Satellite

The European Union (EU) has awarded contracts worth €5m each to nine startups to provide additional data to the Copernicus project, the world’s largest Earth observation programme. The awards are part of a new procurement method called the “dynamic purchasing system”, which aims to support European companies and move towards a hybrid model for Copernicus with both EU-owned Sentinel satellites and private constellations. The startups include Belgium-based Aerospacelab, Bulgaria-based EnduroSat, Finland’s Kuva Space, Germany’s Constellr and OroraTech, Spain’s Aistech Space and Satlantis, and France’s Prometheus and Absolut Sensing. The data is used for monitoring land use, marine and international border surveillance, and improving public security.
