The second Joint Steering Committee (JSC) meeting between the Kenyan and Italian delegations took place on June 15 at ASI headquarters. The delegations included representatives from the ministries responsible for promoting national space activities in their respective countries, as well as representatives from Italy’s and Kenya’s space agencies.
The implementation of the new Intergovernmental Agreement between Italy and Kenya regarding the Broglio Space Centre (BSC) in Malindi, Kenya has paved the way for stronger ties in space cooperation between the two countries. This agreement, which came into effect on December 16, 2020, has a duration of 15 years and can be renewed.
Italy considers cooperation with Kenya to be crucial in its space policy. The visit of the President of Italy, Sergio Mattarella, to BSC further emphasized the importance of this cooperation for Italy and ASI. This is evident in the Italian Space Agency’s 2020-2029 Strategic Vision Document and the 2022-2024 Three-Year Activity Plan.
The second JSC meeting has laid the groundwork for the upcoming Joint Council meeting at the Ministerial level, scheduled for July. At the end of the meeting, the delegations exchanged gifts.
