Exploration Laboratories (ExLabs) has been awarded a $1.7m contract by SpaceWERX to investigate the potential of its Autonomous Capture and Acquisition system to fill capability gaps in the Department of the Air Force. The contract is part of the Air Force Research Laboratory and SpaceWERX’s Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer programme, which aims to streamline the process for small businesses and expand opportunities. ExLabs is developing next-generation spacecraft for capture and control operations for orbital debris clean-up, as well as deep space missions for natural resource retrieval. Its broader mission is to unlock space resources in support of human sustainability while protecting Earth’s ecosystems.
