announces Teodoro Valente as the new President of the Italian Space Agency (ASI)

At the headquarters of the Italian Space Agency (ASI) in Rome, Teodoro Valente has officially taken on the role of ASI’s new president. Valente was proposed and confirmed by the Interministerial Committee for Space and Aerospace Policies (Comint), which is chaired by Adolfo Urso, the Minister for Enterprise and Made in Italy. Valente is an expert in polymeric and composite materials and nanotechnology, and he succeeds Giorgio Saccoccia, who served as ASI’s president for four years until May 2021.

Valente has extensive experience in the academic sector, having graduated in Mechanical Engineering from Sapienza Università di Roma. He also served as a Full Professor of Materials Science and Technology and Deputy Rector at the same university for several years. Prior to his appointment as ASI’s president, Valente was the director of the Institute for Polymers, Composites, and Biomaterials (IPCB) at Italy’s National Research Council – CNR. He also worked in the Research and Development Directorate of the EU Commission and held various positions in the private sector.

In addition to Valente’s appointment, ASI has also announced its new directors: Giuseppe Basini, Marica Branchesi, Stefano Gualandris, Marco Lisi, Luisa Riccardi, and Elda Turco Bulgherini.
