The European Space Agency’s Mars Express has celebrated its 20th anniversary with a stunning new mosaic of the Red Planet. The image, created using data from the spacecraft’s High Resolution Stereo Camera (HRSC), offers a global view of Mars in unprecedented detail. The HRSC team used 90 images taken at higher altitudes to capture areas of around 2500 km wide, which were then put together to form the full view. The resulting image highlights variations across Mars’s surface by enhancing local colour and contrast, revealing an unprecedented variety and detail of colours across its surface.
