Italian Space Agency Inks Space Factory 4.0 Deal with Thales Alenia Space

Thales Alenia Space, a joint venture between Thales and Leonardo, has secured a contract from the Italian Space Agency (ASI) to develop the Space Factory 4.0 program under the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The project will be led by Thales Alenia Space, in partnership with Argotec, CIRA and Sitael, and will involve the development of an interconnected system with facilities located across Italy. The project will focus on building advanced satellites, particularly in the micro and small satellite segment, using advanced automation and digitalisation. The Space Factory 4.0 facilities will be located in five regions of Italy and will be interconnected with the entire supply chain, creating an advanced production hub for domestic, European and international space programs. The project will deploy state-of-art digital and automated processes to support the high production rates needed for today’s and future’s constellations and mega-constellations, while reducing time to market.
