The recent SpaceX rocket launch in Texas resulted in an explosion that caused debris to rain down on nearby parks and towns. While SpaceX claimed that its Starship “flight termination system” worked as intended, the incident highlighted a potential issue with the program: explosive debris. The debris covered nearby Port Isabel with brown grime for miles, shaking homes and causing concern for the local environment. Previous explosions at Starbase in Boca Chica have also created large debris fields that have affected nearby parks. The Federal Aviation Administration grounded the Starship hours after the Texas test launch ended in the rocket’s explosion.
