Juice and Ariane 5 Unite: A Meeting of Two Forces

As the countdown to launch day ticks away, the Juice spacecraft has been carefully encapsulated inside the fairing of the Ariane 5 rocket. This crucial step in the preparation process took place on 4 April, marking a significant milestone for the mission.

Scheduled to launch from Europe’s Spaceport in Kourou, French Guiana on 13 April 2023, Juice will embark on an epic eight-year journey to Jupiter. Once there, the spacecraft will conduct a comprehensive study of the gas giant and its three largest moons – Ganymede, Callisto, and Europa – using a suite of advanced instruments.

The mission aims to provide valuable insights into these fascinating celestial bodies, characterizing them as both planetary objects and potential habitats. Additionally, Juice will explore Jupiter’s complex environment in depth and study the wider Jupiter system as a model for gas giants throughout the Universe.

With so much at stake, the successful encapsulation of Juice inside the rocket’s fairing is a critical step towards achieving these ambitious goals. After launch, the fairing will open up and Juice will separate from the rocket, beginning its long journey towards one of the most intriguing destinations in our solar system.
