What is your background (personal, professional, studies, etc).
I’m an engineer with a doctorate in information and communication technology. I am currently leading the communication and RF engineering team at Fleet, designing and developing the payloads and the associated ground terminals.
Why do you love what you do?
Engineering is an exciting and rewarding field. It is great fun to be able to learn new technologies, acquire new skills and tackle real-world challenges and Fleet provides the opportunity to do just that.
Why did you join Fleet?
My PhD supervisor introduced me to Fleet when I finished my studies and I admired the enthusiasm of the founders and the company’s vision. It was love at first sight and the beginning of a 6-year-long journey filled with experiences and memories.
What do you like about working in the space industry?
Working in the space industry allows you to engage with cutting-edge technologies and explore innovative concepts. You also get to work with an amazing team of highly motivated and skilled individuals from all backgrounds. The industry is a magnet for the curious minds and explorers.
What is one thing people would be surprised to know about you?
I am part of a big family, I have 6 brothers and a sister and I am my mom’s favourite 🙂
Did you win any competition, award, etc (professional or personal)?
Yes, I got
1) Top-ranked student award in my undergraduate study
2) scholarship from the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) to study in germany
3) University President’s scholarship from University of South Australia
When not at work, how do you spend your time? Any sport, music, passion?
I love cooking and, according to my wife, I’m quite good at it. I do furniture upcycling every now and then. For sport, I play video games.
What advice would you give to a younger version of yourself?
Have a plan for literally everything: “A goal without a plan is just a wish”
If Adelaide is not your hometown, where have you moved from?
I came from Iraq and settled in Adelaide 10 years ago.
