Mitsubishi Electric Secures Contract for New Japanese Meteorological Satellite

In an exciting development, Mitsubishi Electric Corporation has been chosen by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) to construct the country’s latest geostationary meteorological satellite, the Himawari-10. This marks Mitsubishi Electric’s fourth consecutive satellite project, following in the footsteps of the Himawari-7, which was launched two decades ago.

The Himawari-10 will build upon the success of its predecessors, the Himawari-8 and Himawari-9, which are currently operational in geostationary orbit. The JMA invited proposals from both domestic and international satellite manufacturers, in line with Japan’s Space Policy. However, it was Mitsubishi Electric’s extensive expertise in satellite technology that ultimately secured them the contract. The JMA highly praised the company’s renowned DS2000 standard satellite platform and ground-data processing software.

This significant achievement further solidifies Mitsubishi Electric’s position as a leading player in the field of satellite manufacturing. With their proven track record and cutting-edge technology, it is no surprise that they were selected for this prestigious project. As the Himawari-10 takes shape, we can expect yet another groundbreaking contribution to Japan’s meteorological capabilities.
