Officina Stellare, a Vicenza-based company listed on Euronext Growth Milan (‘EGM’) of Borsa Italiana, leader in the design and production of opto-mechanical instrumentation of excellence in the Aerospace, Research and Defence sectors – announces that it has been selected by Photo-Sonics, Inc. (“PSI”), after careful evaluation, as a qualified supplier for the supply of numerous short- and long-range optical systems, operating in both the visible and infrared spectrum, required for the execution of the Multispectral Imaging and Tracking System (MITS) project launched in 2019 by the Army US.
The programme to supply Officina Stellare’s optical systems will be developed over a period of about five years for a total value of more than EUR 9 million, and will start with a first tranche of deliveries scheduled over the next two years, with delivery by January 2025, for a value of approximately EUR 3.3 million.
The in-house availability of all phases of design, production, integration and quality control
turned out to be the winning strategy for Officina Stellare, which ranks among the few players worldwide qualified for this type of order and sector. Control over scheduled times, flexibility and optimisation of the production process, together with risk minimisation, are indeed key points in the defence world.
Photo-Sonics, Inc. has been a supplier of optical tracking equipment to the US military for over 70 years. Building on this established relationship of trust, in early 2019, PSI signed a
contract worth more than $27 million for all phases of the development of the new system of multispectral tracking and imaging system called MITS. The project originated in the
TReX of the National Security Technology Accelerator (NSTXL) based in Arlington, Virginia.
NTSXL itself will provide support and assistance for the duration of the project.
In particular, Officina Stellare’s optical systems will be used on both long-range instruments (Fly-Out) and short-range (Close-In) instruments, in order to create a system capable of combining the high-precision precision of the US military.
“The fruitful collaboration between Officina Stellare and Photo-Sonics , initiated by the subsidiary began about 10 years ago and we are delighted that it is now realised with this very important contract. It is a milestone that Officina Stellare has reached after years of developing the optical and mechanical technologies needed to meet the needs of this particular defence application, and the work done over the years with PhotoSonics, Inc has been of great importance. I am happy to say that Officina Stellare is now one of the very few global players qualified to serve customers for this type of product, and I am sure that this order will pave the way for many more similar opportunities.”
