Meet The Team – Daniel Edwards

Meet The Team – Daniel Edwards

During this year’s National Apprenticeship Week, we want to celebrate our own apprentice, Daniel Edwards, who has been with us since July 2021.

Daniel stood out from the very beginning after demonstrating several personal electronic projects that he had developed. These included an automated plant watering system, which used a micro controller to measure atmospheric conditions to trigger mechanisms such as water pumps and fans, as well as record and plot data on a graph. His enthusiasm for electronics was further exemplified through his A-Level Physics qualification, which was self-taught. Alongside the apprenticeship scheme, Daniel is studying a BSc in Electronics and Computer Engineering at the University of the West of England.

Daniel’s role at Arralis includes writing software for embedded systems and PCB design but he has also provided critical support across other projects across the Arralis portfolio, including the creation of an LED virtual display which was used at one of our biggest industry events, the Defence & Security Exhibition (DSEI) Daniel says: “I have been writing software for automating lab tests, such as phase noise measurements, and since then I have built user interfaces for products currently in development.”

“Arralis is a great company to work for. I felt welcomed from day one and have worked on many exciting projects. Working on an apprenticeship scheme has enabled me to gain practical experience, which helps me understand abstract concepts learnt at university and vice versa while also earning an income. I have a lot of autonomy with my projects, yet I still have access to support from industry experts when help is required. This working environment is perfect for my academic and professional development as I start my career.”

Jo Bown, Head of HR, commented: “I have been continuously impressed by Daniel’s attitude and motivation since starting his apprenticeship with us. Apprentices offer fresh perspectives and ideas in the workplace and are the future of engineering, which is why it’s so important to us, as a company, to invest in, encourage and support our workforce of tomorrow.”
